Home remedies for Amnesia include eating apple, walnuts, black pepper, sage, almond and fruits and meditation. Amnesia is the mental condition in which, total or partial memory loss occurs. Accidents, diseases like Alzheimer, alcoholism, and any kind of brain damage due to traumas, diseases or intake of sedative drugs are the reasons behind amnesia. However, it can remove your past memory, certain events and prevent from creating new memories.
Some of the common symptoms of amnesia are memory loss like forgetting simple things which include names, numbers, certain events, confusion and not being able to recognize known faces. It is one of the severe and life threatening form of neurodegenerative diseases.
The root causes of amnesia are infection, disease, alcohol abuse, drug, vascular insufficiency and physical trauma. According to the Harold Sackeim of Columbia University, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) also causes permanent amnesia. The different parts of brain, which are related to these functioning, are hippocampus, limbic system and medial temporal lobe. According to the University College London, people with amnesia caused by damage to the hippocampus are impeded in their ability to imagine future scenarios in detail.

Several diagnosis forms are included in the regular treatment of amnesia, starting from physical examination, investigation of past traumas and checking the general health of the patient. The extent of this illness can be determined by checking the existing extent of amnesia. Magnetic resonance imaging and brain scans are also conducted to check whether the brain is damaged or not. The treatment differs from individual to individual. Psychotherapy plays a pivotal role in the treatment of amnesia, especially for those who have memory loss due to emotional traumas. Memory impairment can be coped through cognitive rehabilitation. Some herbal remedies, which can effectively aid in curbing amnesia, are as follows:
- Apple: An apple is very useful for amnesia. Apple has the goodness of vitamins, minerals namely phosphorus, potassium, etc. Eat an apple along with a teaspoon honey and 1 cup milk for treating amnesia.
- Walnuts: Walnut is beneficial during memory loss. It is used to overcome other brain disorder too. Take 20 grams regularly for effective benefit.
• Black Pepper: Take a preparation of finely grounded seeds of 5 black-pepper and teaspoon honey during morning as well as evening to combat the problem.
- Sage: Sage acts on the part of cortex in brain. Sage is a beneficial herb regarding this problem. It also plays an important role in mitigating mental exhaustion. In addition to it, it also helps in developing one’s concentration. It is advised to drink tea prepared from sage leaves for this reason.
- Almonds: Almonds make the brain strong. They have special properties to act on brain debility. It restores poor memory due to brain weakness. Also, soak almonds in water for 1 hour. Remove the red coating. Make a fine paste with butter and sandalwood. Inhale few quantity of it.
- Brahmi Booti: It is another herb, whose botanical name is Bacopa scrophulariaceae. It works really fast on amnesia. Drying 7 grams of this herb and then grounding it, with almonds and pepper is useful in treating amnesia.
- Nutrition: Diet should include all essential elements. Older persons must stay away from cola, coffee, tea, chocolate, and alcohol, products of white flour, sugar, artificial food colours, white rice, strong condiments and chemical additives. You should have three meals. Diet rich in phosphorus like cereals, milk, nuts and fruit juices should be eaten. Cow milk is highly beneficial, but must be consumed as much as you can digest easily.
- Fruits: The fruits which will help in memory loss are figs, oranges, apple, grapes etc. Take raisins along with figs and raisins.
• Ground-pepper: Diet is of prominent importance, when it comes to treating amnesia. Take a pinch of it, mix with honey and take two times a day.
- Meditation: Nervous system should function properly in this condition. Take proper sleep and also rest considerably. Meditation helps in this regard. Practice it scientifically and under doctors or professional guidance.
- Rosemary: It is amongst the best remedies for amnesia. You can consume it as tea, named as rosemary tea. This tea is prepared by rosemary. It has the health benefits of rosemary. Drink it one to two times daily for effective results.
- Holy Basil: This helps enhancing memory and also to keep the mind in stable condition. Basil leaves can be consumed directly after washing them.
- Ayurvedic Herbs: Herbs like Ashwagandha, Mandookparni, Brahmi and Shankhpushpi are the famous herbs used to treat amnesia. They are also used in the ayurvedic treatment like Panchakarma.
- Brain Exercise: Write your daily time-table and activities which are to be done. Practice it for few months till you can remember them mentally. Then avoid using the note or writing them. Remember them. This is a simple way of brain exercise, which will enhance your memory.
