Benefits of Medical Insurance

Medical Insurance is used to pay your medical expenses. Some of the benefits of medical insurance are as follows. It makes sure that any kind of treatment or surgery is affordable if anything were to happen to your health. The costs of drugs and medicine are becoming expensive. Without medical insurance, the different modes of payment of medical bills can turn out to be costly.

One such mode of payment is by taking credit from consumer finance companies. These companies charge interest rates which are as high as 20% irrespective of your credit history. If getting insured medically is delayed till you develop a condition like diabetes or until you have an accident then you will not be insured against the pre-existing conditions. That is why medical insurance should be taken as early as possible.

In the US, most medical insurance plans come under two types. These are Health Maintenance Organizations and Preferred Provider Organizations. Both of these types offer different benefits. The HMO does not require the insurer to meet a certain deductible. A deductible is the amount of out-of-pocket expenses one must occur before the medical coverage kicks in. This is one of the ways of keeping the premiums low. But if the insurer cannot afford the deductible then an HMO will be a good option while considering medical insurance. An HMO also does not split the costs of the treatment with the insurer. The insurance company will pay 100% of the bill. The drawback in this plan is that there are only a limited number of primary care physicians that the insurer is allowed to choose.

The Preferred Provider Organization offers a lot more choice in selecting a physician for all your needs. One can also choose a physician who is outside of the plan’s network. This means that the insurer can retain the physician he/she has been going to even after he/she has taken medical insurance under this plan. The only drawback is the insurer has to pay more.

Some of the companies that offer medical insurance in the US are Assurant, Humana, Golden rule, United American. All these companies have received high ratings from various credit rating agencies. They offer a variety of plans from which the one that best suits the insurer’s needs can be chosen.

There are two options of taking medical insurance in UK. These are the National Health Service and private medical insurance. The national health insurance is free at the point of need. One of the benefits of NHS is that they will not reject people because of the status of their health or their ability to pay. One of their primary aims is to reduce the health inequality. Private insurance is becoming an attractive option because of the increasing demand on the NHS. There is an option of choosing from a variety of plans that best suits the insurer’s needs.

Some of the companies that offer medical insurance are Pruhealth, Tesco, HSA, Freedom Health net, and Norwich Union etc.
