Hi Sri Ram,

Cinnamon is definitely not good for health if you eat it in large quantities.

About 1 g daily should be sufficient for regular use. Ofcourse, if you intend to consume it for any specific desease, please check with your doctor.

Allergic Reaction to Cinnamon Oil in Toothpaste

The health benefits as listed in this article are probably very true. However, you should pay attention to the adverse effects as well.

I recently purchased several tubes of Tom\'s Cinnamint Toothpaste. A few days ago after using a fresh tube, I noticed that my mouth started experiencing a very dry burning reaction. At first, I thought it was a food allergy. Yet, there was nothing in my diet that had changed. I kept thinking that perhaps I have developed a new food allergy. After a few days I started wondering if it was my toothpaste. The symptoms got worse. My tongue now has a blistery (small bumps) rash. It hurts to move it around. My lips are very dry. The corners of my mouth are cracked. It feels like I drank a cup of scalding hot water.

After doing a little research, I found out that it is the cinnamon oil in the product that is suspect. Cinnamon in it\'s dry powdery form doesn\'t seem to have that effect. But, cinnamon oil (which is concentrated) produce a volatile reaction.

Cinnamon oil very powerful

I searched for the effects of cinnamon oil after developing over eight painful little blisters (canker sores) on the inside of my mouth and on my tongue. It is so painful that I could not read a bedtime story to my son tonight.

As it turns out, I had suspected my new tube of Tom\'s Cinnamint Toothpaste of being the cause, and now after reading the health descriptions and warnings, as well as the previous post by \"fountainpen\" - I have definitively identified what happened.

It\'s a pity that my body has a reaction to Tom\'s Cinnamint Toothpaste because I truly enjoyed using the product.

Kind regards,
Cameron

I too have a serious reaction to cinnamon oil found in \"red hots\", cinnamon breath mints and other items flavored with the oil. Cinnamon rolls laden with gobs of cinnamon powder is okay. That is likely due to the fact that powdered cinnamon is not cinnamon at all, it is cassia, an entirely different plant.
My allergy to the oil perplexed several dentists and medics. They all treated me for the dreaded \"thrush\" disease.

cinnamon oil - good or bad

Cinnamon is strong and hot spice, and the oil is the extract of the same.
I would expect the very strong reaction with the oil; as experienced by few people & who posted their comments here.

All spices needs to taken in small quantities, and they may induce adverse side effects if consumed in large doses.
However I would not recommend using cinnamon oil directly in to your recipe or something like that. It may be a promising medicine for some indication and needs research in that direction.
Nobody can say for certain why few people are allergic to cinnamon, but doses incorporated in tooth paste may be exceeding their tolerance level.
One is certain it is promising spice with many many health benefit, all should take it in the food in small quantities from to time.

Cinnamon is said to be used in many things medicinal or not...but the most readily used is the powder substance as a spice.

some times in the tom\'s toothpaste people are more allergic to the mint then the cinnamon but getting a simple test for allergies would solve anything to know if you are allergic to something. Plus if all these symptoms do occur there is probably a clause on the box that says to discontinue the usage and speak to a medical professional. I would think there maybe something else you are allergic to if this has never happened before with cinnamon as a spice.

My leg muscles and joints have been hurting me for about 3 months. I done some research on the health benefits of taking cinnamon mixed with honey.....I used the recipe for arthritis benefits. I do not know for certain as to whether or not this mixture of honey and cinnamon has eased the pain to almost nil, or not....but it\'s going away. My legs had hurt me so much at night, that I had to sleep with a pillow between my legs to get any relif from the pain.....and I have only been using the honey and cinnamon mixture for just one week. If my relief is really attributed to this honey and cinnamon mixture, I will be telling the world\'s arthritis suffers about it. But.....befure I nake any hasty moves in this respect, I am going to stay on honey and cinnamon and will know for certain on down the road if I have found a miracle for my arthritis pain.

I have read that cinnamon can stabilize blood sugar and help lower cholesterol. Also, that the oil is more effective than powder. Has anyone actually taken cinnamon, and had their blood sugar and cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and HDL checked, after taking it for a while, and found a reduction in their numbers?

Allergies and Eczema

My daughter Christine suffers with severe eczema. She does have allergies (weeds, molds, grass, ragweed, dustmites, shellfish.) She has seen 3 allergists and 3 dermatologists. She does allergy shots every week. Her main problem now is her skin. She itches alot. We think that the winter weather is the main culprit (dry skin). All the lotions and medication don\'t seem to work. Doctors always resort to giving her steroids. We only do this when it gets out of hand. We are desperate to do this in a healthy way. Please if you have any suggestions we would be very grateful.
Thank you

HI Linda, My child suffered the same way as your child. We are blessed because we did find help for her.
I will be more then glad to share what worked for our child.
Purchase these items:
RoBathol bath oil (online)/or your drugist will order it
Eucerine in the Jar - not the lotion in the bottle
(perscription - Kenelog cream - only for a while
Bathe daily in lukewarm water not hot(drying) for at least 20 to 30 minutes. Do not use a towel to dry...........air dry
then apply a mixture of the eucerine and kenalog to the areas that are irrated. only dress in 100% cotton that has been washed in dreft detergent.(This is the only detergent we washed her clothes and towels - washclothes etc. in. Until her itching was under control she took benadry to sleep. Remember exzema is a visous circle, you itch, you scratch you irritate.............you itch, etc.........

Her doctor said until we calm the skin and break the cycle to give her benadryl. We did and it worked. now the key is to keep the skin well lubricated with the Eurcerin and she takes a lukewarm bath in Robathol still. It has been years and this is just her lifestyle and easy. Once her skin was cleared we switched to over the counter cortaid to mix with the cream and often just the Eurcerin. God Bless and I hope this helps your child. Also my daughter has the same allergies as you child. Good Luck, Tina

Almond Oil

Almond Oil works very well in relieving eczema.
Give her plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and be sure that she is well hydrated--spring water.
Also, you may want to consider eliminating certain foods from her diet in order to determine if the eczema is being brought on by an allergy--bleached flour perhaps.
Aubry\'s organic plant based baby soaps and lotions are also effective.

Good Luck.
Please keep us updated.

I help people to quit smoking for a living. Using cinnamon bark as a replacement has worked wonders for many people. Ex-smokers can breathe through it, sucking in spicy cinnamon flavored air. Chewing on cinnamon has also helped my daughter to stop biting her nails, and helped me to stop drinking diet sodas. Cinnamon is a fantastic replacement for many hand-to mouth habits, stimulates the brain, and provides a nice sensory experience (smokers crave this). Quitting smoking? Give it a try.

I started taking cinnamon with my starchiest meals of the day (dried-inside capsule) I\'m not diabetic but I still keep blood sugar in mind, and this helps to regulate blood sugars. Doesn\'t mean it\'s magic, you still need to choose complex carbs and other healthy choices, but the cinnamon was a metabolic booster for me and I lost weight a little quicker.

hives

It has been hypothesised that house dust mite is as a causative and/or deteriorating factor in some cases of chronic urticaria (hives). In this report we describe two patients with the history of respiratory house dust mite allergy and chronic urticaria, which resolved in the course of house dust mite immunotherapy. Basing on literature and our own experiences, we can only speculate that some patients suffering from mite-induced respiratory allergy and concomitant chronic urticaria may benefit additionally from allergen immunotherapy, manifesting as the withdrawal or alleviation of urticaria symptoms

I know I get hives quite a bit from almost everything... the only thing I\'ve been able to find other than benidryl, is if you run cold water over the area for a few mins the itching goes away and the hives disapear!! warm water makes them worse!

Cinnamon for weight loss the recipee is:
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon honey
1 cup water
mix and bring to boil.
Then strain it and measure 1/2 cup. Drink 1/2 cup before bed, then store the rest in the fridge and drink it in the morning before eating breakfast. Helps with bloodsugar and weight loss. I have tried this recipe with Agave Nectar instead of honey... does not work as well. I think honey is the way to go.
