Hello Shazia,

The best prevention against mosquito bites while sleeping is mosquito nets. They are a bit combursome to manage, but are most effective.

During the day, you can apply lavender oil topically on exposed area if required. Be careful on your face. You better not apply it on the face.

Regards,
Kiran

HI THERE,
I have had insomnia for years and i have to take prescription meds for the problem. They work good but they are also addictive.I ordered organic lavender oil(Lavendula agustifolia). How could i use this oil to help my insomnia?I use to have out breaks of dermatitis and i used organic coconut oil as a skin cream and so far i haven\'t had an outbreak of dermatitis.Could i add lavender oil to my coconut oil to add fragrance to it?If so,what is the dilution ratio?

Best Regards.

Lavender Oil

I always use lavender oil when i get a break out of dermatitis, red, flaky, dry, itchey skin.I even use it pure at night and the next morning the results are spectacular. It may go red at first and seem a little shocking, but that goes away fairly quickly and I\'m pretty much healed the next morning. You could certainly add Lavender oil to your coconut oil in the amount you thought smelled good. you could start with 1ml. in 100 and increase from there by half of a ml.if you want more smell. I make a Lavender Oil face spray for cleaning and refreshing.I put 2ml.oil in 100 Pure water and shake. It actually smell better after a few days when it\'s aged. I like it strong but some may find this drying...You can put 1ml.if you have dry skin. I use it all over my face and love it. My closed eyes dont seem to be sensitive to it,but every one is different.

Hi, just wanted to mention that you can use the coconut oil for your cat. My cats love it. You can apply it topically to the skin but the best way is orally. My cats come running when I open the jar of coconut oil. You will want the virgin coconut oil. I have found it at walmart in the pharmacy dept with the supplements. My cats usually get about a tsp of it. They like it in liquid form. Just run it under hot water and it turns liquid very quickly. I work as a groomer and recommend it to my clients. They have also seen great improvements in their pets too.

* Geranium oil -- Spray house and garden plants with geranium oil diluted in distilled water to discourage larvae from feeding.
    * Lavender oil/flowers -- Use lavender sachet bags to protect clothes against moths. Also flies and mosquitoes dislike the fragrance, use the oil in insect sprays, or add the cut flowers to flower vases.
    * Lemon ecualyptus oil --Oil of lemon eucalyptus Eucalyptus citriodoraprovides provides protection against mosquito bites, according to the CDC.
    * Lemongrass, citronella-- A good mosquito repellent, it is often added to candles and incense sticks.
    * Neem oil --Neem oil is a good mosquito repellent, but smells quite strong.
    * PennyRoyal Oil Pennyroyal has been used as a natural insect repellent for centuries. A little goes a long way
    * Red cedarwood oil Red cedarwood is very good insect repellent, effective against mosquitoes, moths, woodworms, leeches and rats.
    * Tea tree oil For quick relief from mosquito or chigger bites, rub tea tree oil on them. Tea tree is generally safe to apply directly to skin, but do an allergy test first.

Essential Oils and Alcoholism

Hi, I´ve got a friend who´s drinking habits are dragging him down and keeping him without energy. He drinks about 3 to 4 glasses of red wine or beer everynight. Depending on his stress levels drinks more or less.
He´s been trying to stop for a long time, and it´s affecting his life. He drinks in the evenings only and feels it´s like a relaxing thing to do, but then he looses his grip and drinks more than he should. How could he get help from essential oils or other herbs?
I´ve heard that St. John´s Wort is a preventative since it´s a mood enhancer and antidepressant, but does it really work?
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

If you have pure lavender oil, it is harmful to use it on the skin by itself....it needs to be diluted with something. I bought organic pure essential lavender oil and diluted it with organic extra virgin olive oil. About a 1/2 cup oil and 10-12 drops lavender oil. You can also dilute with witch hazel and some lemon juice for a nice skin toner.

I always had pimples on my face. Not huge ones but red, inflamed looking ones. So far nothing has helped. So I tried this: I drink lavender tea every night. Then I put the left over wet lavender, that I used for the tea, on my forehead in a paper towel. For about 20 minutes. (If I use it longer then that I get a headache. I assume everybody is different so you have to experience it yourself)
I\'m amazed with the results!!!
Calms my pimples down, even if they are up and armed. :)

You can dilute the oil with water (about 2ml of oil for every 100ml of water) and spray it on your sheets before bed. You can also place some cut lavender flowers in your pillow case, or try drinking a lavender tea (don\'t use the oil for tea. Buy real lavender tea from a health food store). I find any of these methods help me to fall asleep faster, I hope it helps you!

Cheers,

Can you tell me why should diabetics \"stay away from Lavender oil\"? The same phrase has been repeated in all the sites covering the benefits of the Lavender oil.

My mom whose diabetic is a lavender fan and I got her a beautiful bottle of Lavender oil essence from Provence-France and now I read that it is not good for her. Could you please elaborate why? Thanks

ringworm in cats

I am fostering kittens for the SPCA and they developed ringworm. My boss sells YL essential oils and made me a mixture of lavender oils and lemongrass to use on the cats and kittens. Is this safe? I\'ve read conflicting information on this over the internet. My vet is unfamiliar with essential oils so she is no help. I have the oils and want the ringworm to go away ASAP but I don\'t want to kill the cats. Any personal experience, positive or negative?

hi - I too used to suffer from chronic migraines for more than 25 years, I think lavender can help to relax tension, but mky migraines were finally cured by a series of visits to a cranial osteopath. As a result I have had no migraines for 6 months after suffering on a weekly basis for many years.

Good luck with your search for a remedy - I hope you find something that works for you.

I have had migraines my whole life ( I am now 48), and I usually wake up with them in the morning. I read about essential oils a few weeks ago, and have found that a few drops of lavender on my pillow and a 50-50 mixture of lavender and chamomile in a lamp allows me to wake up pain-free 90% of the time. This is the best results I have found, and I have spent a lot of time and money on different approaches to control the headaches.

Yes, lavender is great for headaches. So are rosemary & peppermint.
The latter 2 have to be diluted with a carrier oil such as almond, grapeseed, olive, jojoba or hazelnut.
Migraines are caused from a lack of vitamin B2. A lady suffered from migrains at least twice a month until she started taking B2 supplements. Now she doesn\'t have them at all. I would take B-Complex if I were you and each more organic leafy green vegetables.
Good luck!

You\'re supposed to dilute essential oils with carrier oils before using them on the skin because they can cause serious allergic reactions for some people. Some examples of carrier oils are coconut and olive oil however, lavender oil is one of the few essential oils that are supposed to be safe to use undiluted. The warning is probably there just in case but if you\'re worried you can just mix a few drops with a carrier oil and it should be fine. Also, if you\'re not using it on your skin then there shouldn\'t be any need to dilute it.

I\'m not sure if you\'ve investigated, but 80% of migraine headaches are bite related. Especially, if the headaches begin in the temples and/or back of the neck. There is a reason that only women get migraines. Have you ever known a man to complain of migraines? I haven\'t. So many pain management doctors don\'t realize this. \"When all you\'ve got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.\" Things to look for? In addition to the area of the head affected, other signs are gum pocketing, gum recession, wear on your teeth (espeically the front teeth). Look for a bite specialist (usually a dentist) and inlcude their opinion in your decision on how to treat. Good luck.

Very rare to see men with true migraines. True migraines begin down the centerline of the scalp and, as I understand it, are caused by the swelling of the dura beneath the scalp which presses against the skull. If your headaches are in the temples or back of the neck, these are classic bite headache symptoms. The reason they\'re worse in the morning is that everyone clenches during REM sleep. I think if you can find a dentist to do a bite \"equilibration\", especially using a device called a Tekscan, I\'ll bet your headaches will finally be gone. Do your due diligence, the internet is great for that.

You are very fortunate you only used lavender essential oil to massage with; it is one of the very few that is remotely safe to use \'neat\' (undiluted) and even then it is suggested in very small quantities. Most other essential oils are incredibly irritant and even toxic when used without a carrier! Please be careful and do your research first, essential oils and herbals have a lot of wisdom and healing to share but please use them responsibly and with respect.

Many blessings,

Migraines are a vascular condition. You get them because the veins in your neck and head are swollen and they push upon your nerves. Lavender oil is helpful, as is peppermint oil. Migraines are usually hereditary. My brother has them and so does my mother. Currently my doctor has me on beta blockers which prevents the headaches. It is daily but it\'s the only thing that has worked, and I\'ve tried them all.

Lavender oil is obtained by distillation from the blue lavender flower heads it is a mild solvent similar in action to glycerine when applied to the skin it dissolves lactic acid and skin urea salt which mosquitoes always are attracted to the sent of body odour containing these substances ie lactic acid and urea salts and urine and menstrual  fluids; if you are going to a mosquitoe area,  example river valleys ,marsh lands,  in hot countries take malaria tablets from your gp doctor,  and always wash in mild carbolic soap and apply lavender oil/water all over your body and hair twice a day use a bottle spray is best make the solution your self;
buy lavender flowers from a garden centre, they can order it for you, from lavender flower grower/supplier

then put the cut up lavender flower heads in 2 pints of warmed glycerine solution, which you can buy from the chemist shop even if you have to buy several small bottles, believe me it

Our family recently enjoyed a wonderful holiday at Woodgate beach. As it was the first time for my for my eight month old daughter, Scarlett, I worried about sand flys. My worry stems from the fact that I seem to attract them and react badly so am afraid she might be the same. When I visited the chemist to ask advise I was informed that there was nothing on the market that she could use but if I mixed a little lavender oil in with her moisturiser that would deter them. I used the advice successfully but now wish to confirm whether or not use of lavender oil is advised in children so young before I continue its use.

With all due respect, I must differ with your statement that only women get migranes. My son is 32 years old and has been dealing with migranes since he was about 10 years old. We have had cat scans ran and nothing shows up. I pray each night that we will find something to rid him of this excrutiating pain. You never know when he will get one. Sometimes he can go several weeks without having one. Other times, he may get one every week. They are so bad that he vomitts, his right arm and hand go numb and sometimes his speach is even messed up. I would appreciate any and all advice from anyone. Thank you.
