|
When a WWOOFer visits an organic farm, he/she doesn’t know anybody except for the hosts. The entire day of the WWOOFer depends on the host and the way the host behaves with the WWOOFer significantly governs how the WWOOFer spends his time. Hence it is necessary for hosts to keep certain things in mind while interacting with WWOOFers.
Given below are some common communication tips for WWOOF hosts:
- Enquire about the WWOOFers arrival: WWOOFers communicate a number of hosts at a time and in many cases do not communicate if they do not intend to turn-up. If you are really banking on the WWOOFers’ help, you can confirm their status a week before their arrival.
- Set the expectations right: Inform the WWOOFer about what you would be providing them with and what they would learn on your farm, beforehand.
- Talk to the WWOOFers regularly: Regularly talk to the WWOOFers and enquire about their wellbeing. If you invite only one WWOOFer at a time and leave him/her all alone, he/she will find it really difficult to spend time. You may also hence invite 2-3 WWOOFer at a time as they can chat among themselves.
If you do not want to have an unpleasant experience at WWOOFing, you should also select the WWOOFer properly. Question hosts can ask WWOOFers include the following:
- How long will you stay?
- Have you WWOOFed before? Where?
- What are your interests?

- What experience or skills do you have?
- Do you have any dietary requirements?
- Which language/s do you speak?
