Organic Baby Clothing

Have you seen pictures of cute babies wrapped in beautifully coloured soft baby blankets and peeping curiously out of them? You might have and then you must have thought that there could be a no more beautiful and soothing scene than this. I too share your opinion. Blankets have been an integral part of a baby’s daily life.

There are Baby Carrier Blankets, Baby Sleeping Blankets and so on. Blankets are very important to keep your babies safe and comfortable because their skin is very sensitive to even the slight changes in the weather and a little cold or moisture out there can be disturbing for them. So, babies are better wrapped in baby blankets. Now, there is some good news for the lovers of babies and baby blankets. We have Organic Baby Blankets in our markets. Now your babies are safer and more comfortable in these Organic Baby Blankets than the traditional ones.
I know that you cannot wait anymore to hear more about them. So, here is some stuff which can be of some interest to you.

Organic Baby Blankets: The organic baby blankets are the baby blankets that are made from organic material and processed in an organic way. The material used in them is grown organically or bio-dynamically, that is, without using any artificial fertilizer, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides etc. Further, during processes such as bleaching, colouring, flavouring etc., no synthetic bleaches such as chlorine, synthetic colours or dyes and synthetic flavours are used. These blankets are further classified as King, Queen, Twin, Throw, Receive, Swaddling and Security blankets etc.

Material Used: Organic Baby Blankets are mostly made up of organic cotton and organic wool. Those made from organic cotton are preferred over the woolen ones because cotton is more comfortable, non allergenic and suitable for all skin types. The companies who claim to manufacture hundred percent organic baby blankets may use organic bleaches, colours and flavours and hence have lesser choices of colours or flavours, but others may use synthetic ones which are not so harsh on baby skin and hence may have a wide range of colours or flavours to pick from.

Before you buy: Before you buy some good blankets, you need to have a scrutiny of what different brands are offering. In general, you should look for following things in them;

  • If you are paying for those having a “Hundred Percent Organic” tag on them, then make sure that they are made up of hundred percent natural fiber (cotton or wool) and organic natural colours and flavours only. There should not be a tiny bit of artificial fiber anywhere (not even the stitches!).
  • The true hundred percent organic baby blankets are not likely to have a wide range of colours. In any case, go for the white ones or at least the light coloured ones. Also, it is better not to buy the flavoured blankets.
  • If you want the woolen blankets, then before you buy them, make sure that your baby is not allergic towards wool.
  • These blankets must be certified as “Organic” by a recognized certifying agency which works for that region.
  • Go for the established and famous brands.
  • Those priced exorbitantly high, just because of the brand name, may be avoided when you are getting the same certified quality from other brands at cheaper price. This is because you will need to replace them frequently, as babies are very good at wetting or colouring them.
  • Also ensure whether they can be washed by hot water or not. This is important because you will not be using synthetic disinfectants in them and the only choice left to you will be to use hot water.
  • The blankets you are buying should be durable enough to withstand your baby’s wrestles with them.

The Certifying Agencies: Although different certifying agencies are responsible for certifying organic products in different regions, you may look for the seal of following certifiers when you go to buy some Organic Baby Blankets.

  • In many countries, Government agencies do these certifications.
  • IFOAM or International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement.
  • Demeter International.
  • KRAV of Sweden.
  • Oeko-Tex Standard 100.
  • Skal of Netherlands.

Market Prospects: Just like organic baby beddings, the market of Organic Baby Blankets is far better in developed countries of Europe, America, Australia and Asia than in developing nations. Again, comparing continents, this market is weaker in Asia and Africa. The reasons being lesser per capita income, unawareness, different climatic conditions etc. But now, the market is rising in these places too, despite the fact that the use of these blankets is limited to some very big cities only. People in smaller cities and rural areas still do not even know about them.

Availability: Market and availability are inter-dependent. So, but natural, these blankets will be more and easily available in nations in the first group discussed above and you won’t have any trouble getting them. But if you fall in the second group, then perhaps there is no choice left to you but to order it on phone or internet, but still I am in doubt whether they will ship them to you in these places or not. Even if they do, the blankets will cost you a fortune. So, you may have to wait. You may seek the help of your friends living in the first group of nations and tell him to send a pack for you by VPP. There is another way out. Visit Europe or America or Australia in your honey moon and pick a pack from there while you are back, as a preparation for the future.

Price: The price of organic baby blankets are certainly much higher than the normal baby blankets and they vary on factors like brand names, to what extent they are organic, their availability, demand etc. But any way, be prepared to pay a handsome.

Benefits: The Organic Baby Blankets are the most soothing and most comfortable ones for your baby. Your baby will never have skin problems, rashes or other adversities due to the harsh chemicals used otherwise. Even if your baby tries to lick it or taste the blankets, it will not harm him. There is one more advantage. That is, you are helping keep the environment clean and unpolluted by using these organic baby blankets.

Drawbacks: Although making something organic saves the cost of chemicals used in them, still the organic baby blankets are costlier than the normal baby blankets. They are more susceptible to the growth of microbes or fungus in them, being totally organic.

Finally, a big problem remains. When you ask you new born baby about how he or she likes these organic baby blankets, you may get a big “No” or a negative nod or a big cry. Why? Have you forgotten how we never liked getting ourselves wrapped by anything when we were babies? So, you must convince your newborn before you buy a pair for him or her.
