Coconut oil was widely used in the United States and many other countries till the last century. However, other oils such as soybean oil, corn oil and canola oil have gradually replaced coconut oil due to a conscious effort of the society to move away from saturated fats.

The replaced oils are rich in poly-unsaturated fats, yet they raise the cholesterol levels resulting in increased incidences of heart problems.

People in coastal regions of certain tropical countries where natural coconut oil is still used for cooking purposes, do not face such problems. The modern civilization has also witnessed a surge in obesity problems and over 60% of the people in the US are either overweight or obese. The chemical contamination of our food products is also an important reason for the poor health of the present generations.

In such a scenario, organic coconut oil becomes a very good alternative to the unhealthy oils we have been using over the past few decades. Some common brands available in the market include Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil, and Bourgeois Bargains Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.

Do All Organic Coconut Oils Have Same Benefits?
No. If you make a search for organic coconut oil, you will realize that the marketplace is full of numerous brands. Each of these brands makes its oil special by adding extra ingredients / additives. Absense of proper definition and standards for organic coconut oil has enabled the manufacturers to market these variations. As a result their benefits are slightly varied. However, the overall benefits of these organic coconut oils remain same. You should also note that some manufacturers take undue advantage of this lack of standards and market their product as 'extra' virgin coconut oil.
