Now if you take coconut oil softgel capsules, which generally contain about 500-1000 mg coconut oil, you will have to consume atleast 15 capsules daily to equate one 1 table spoon of coconut oil. Thats too many. These capsules are also very costly when compared to regular coconut oil.
Further, these capsules are made from animal gelatin. So if you are a vegan, you would prefer to stay away from them. And if you prefer to buy 100% organic products, you also have to ensure that the capsule is made from organic animal gelatin. Preparing softgel capsules also involves usage of mineral oil which is not permitted in organic foods, though there are some companies which claim to prepare softgels without mineral oil.
So to summarize, coconut oil (and virgin coconut oil) is not a prescription drug. It also does not have a bad taste or odor. It is hydrophobic, but there is no evidence that its absoption by our body is increased if consumed in softgel form. Further, pills are very costly. So consuming coconut oil pills does not make any sense.
