Darsih  - Ubud Organic Farmers Market   |2008-10-12 13:55:51 This market was created two years ago to provide small, independent, committed organic farmers a way to sell direct to consumers because they could not compete with the very large, financed, usually foreigner owned organic farms. These small business owners don't have internet skills, websites, marketing staff, delivery trucks, marketing skills, etc. So the market gives them a way to sell and therefore, keep them growing organically. There are two sellers of predominately vegetables and fruits; one seller of organically grown rice and vegetables; one seller of natural healthy products (incense, oils, jamu, anti-mosquito, * more); one seller selling soapnuts (soap without chemicals); one seller with healthy snacks, Bali coffee, jam, wheat grass juice, juicing books, & more; one seller with cocoa, Bali coffee, vinegar, coconut, organic seeds, Permaculture book in Indonesian language, & more; one seller of delicious cakes, breads, and cookies. All the sellers are committed to healthy and organic. The vegetables sellers are the 'cake' and the other sellers are the 'frosting' on the cake - the cake of the market. This great market is held on Saturdays from 930 to 2 at Pizza Bagus (who donates the selling space) in Pengosekn, just outside of Ubud.
