If you want to do WWOOFing in a particular country, the first thing that you should do is to become a member of the national WWOOF organization of that country. Many countries have a national WWOOF organization that coordinates the WWOOFing activity in that region. There are numerous benefits offered by WWOOF membership.
The benefits of WWOOF membership include:
- WWOOF membership entitles you to a WWOOF book containing list of WWOOF hosts with the organization. For example WWOOF New Zealand has about 830 hosts registered with it. Similarly WWOOF Canada provides a list of 600 farms. Many people prefer to WWOOF for three to four months at a stretch and stay on 5-6 farms during this period. Access to such a list gives more options for WWOOFers to choose from.
- You get a WWOOF membership card when you become a member of an organization. Almost every WWOOF host demands a membership card on your arrival and you may be asked to leave if you don’t have a valid membership card.
- You get access to the updated list of members. Some organizations update the list every month and provide an online access to the members. Information about new as well as banned hosts is included in these updates.
- WWOOF Italia and WWOOF Australia provide basic insurance cover to its members. The insurance premium is included in the membership fee. Further since other WWOOF organizations also think that insurance is important for volunteers, a voluntary organization named OV Europa has been set up to provide insurance for WWOOFers in Europe.
- You can provide suggestions to the WWOOF organization and register a complaint if you had a bad experience.
- Some organizations such as WWOOF Korea will help you in contacting the hosts for the first three months of your membership.
