WWOOFing involves doing physical labor on organic farms. Hence it is always advisable to get an insurance cover for yourself on your WWOOFing expeditions. A comprehensive health and accident insurance is always helpful in times of need.
Some hosts do not accept a WWOOFer without an insurance cover which is valid in their country. You have to show a proof of insurance cover along with your membership card to these hosts. Hence you should always check with the host the type of insurance he/she demands before knocking the host’s door.
The WWOOF organizations do not claim any responsibility in case of an accident, injury or loss. However, some WWOOF organizations, such as WWOOF Italia and WWOOF Australia provide a basic insurance for its members. The insurance premium is included in the membership fees. Further since other WWOOF organizations also think that insurance is important for volunteers, a voluntary organization named OV Europa has been set up to provide insurance for WWOOFers in Europe.
In some countries such as Mexico, an insurance cover is not a requirement for WWOOFing. One of them is Mexico. However, WWOOF Mexico recommends you to purchase an insurance cover.
