How Ali Katz Turned From Hot Mess To Mindful Mom

Ali Katz is a renowned author of two parenting books, ‘Hot Mess to Mindful Mom’ and ‘Get the most out of Motherhood’. It wasn’t always that Ali Katz knew the perfect act of balancing. In fact, in the past, she used to hide in the bathroom to get some lone time from family. To escape exhaustion, she started taking sleeping pills and soon got addicted to it. This mom of four (two boys and two pups!) had so much on her plate that she was too exhausted to realize that she was missing ‘herself’ on the priority list. The transformation began six years ago when she started meditating. Meditation helped her feel more grounded, get more patient with her children, and become more confident. She eventually also started falling asleep without the pills. That’s when she realized that she needed to spread the message to other parents too. Ali exclaims, “Meditation was simply too good to keep to me!” She began teaching and things took off from there.

Her books have been the biggest medium through which she has been able to communicate to her tribe and change the way they perceive parenting. The appreciation and praises she has received in return make her feel incredibly blessed and proud of. Traveling to seven states in three months has been another proud career high for Ali. She was able to meet different people from various communities and hopes to do this more often. According to Ali, the positive impact she has made on her child is the closest to her heart: “The first time I saw my son take deep breaths, unprompted by me when he felt stressed is a moment I will never forget. I even got a bit teary! He did that because he has seen me do it hundreds of times. Modeling works!”

Ali has been really excited about her two new initiatives, which have been a game-changer for her.

  • #Weekendsoff: This initiative involves saying no to social media on Saturdays and Sundays. Don’t get into thinking Ali as an anti-social person. In fact, she loves social media but taking breaks from it helps her fall in love with herself even more. “This has been an incredible act of self-care and self-love, and I am working to encourage others to try or take baby steps toward it,” adds Ali.
  • #Intuitionjournal: Through her new resource, Intuition Journal, she aims to encourage people to keep track of the intuitive hunches that they get, to keep a tab on what happens when they listen, and what happens when they don’t, for thirty days.
