The home remedies for bacterial vaginitis include yogurt, tea, cold water, neem powder, garlic, turmeric, tracheal, vegetable juice, cedar oil, and a number of other easy components that can provide great results.

What is Bacterial Vaginitis?

Bacterial vaginitis can be described as an inflammation of the genitourinary tract (GIT) of women that is characterized by a thick, white, foul-smelling discharge from the vagina. This is caused due to the growth of a set of bacteria leading to a pH imbalance in the affected area. This causes redness, swelling, pain, and a burning sensation for the female. It is easily curable via home remedies as well as some precautionary measures involving personal hygiene.

Bacterial vaginitis, also referred to as bacterial vaginosis, is one of the most common conditions wherein there is fluid discharge from the genitourinary tract of the female. It is characterized by inflammation of the vagina and increased alkalinity or rise in pH in the regions surrounding it. According to the Bandolier, a scientific journal that gives evidence-based opinions; about 10% of the women around the globe are affected by the condition at some point in their life. However as many as half of the female population have either mild or no symptoms.

Causes of Bacterial Vaginitis

It is caused due to excessive growth of a particular set of bacteria that competes for the normal flora of the vagina, resulting in a shift from acidic to alkaline conditions. It is easy to treat the disease, but if left untreated, bacterial vaginitis increases the risk of developing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) as well as complications during pregnancy.

Symptoms of Bacterial Vaginitis

The prominent symptoms of Bacterial vaginitis are summarized below:

bacterialvaginitisinfo-Itching in the vaginal region

-Pain or burning is noticeable and increases while urinating or having sexual intercourse

-The lips outside the vagina, called the vulva, are more red or inflamed than usual

-Vaginal discharge that is thick, heavy, and white or gray in color

-Foul and unpleasant smell from the discharge

-Discharge increases after coitus or the menstrual cycle

Note: If the discharge is thin with streaks of blood, it is indicative of atrophic vaginitis

Diagnosis of Bacterial Vaginitis

There are a few methods to diagnose bacterial vaginosis, these include a medical history examination, wherein your doctor will ask you questions regarding any vaginal infections that you may have experienced before. He will also ask you about your sex life or any other sexually transmitted diseases that you might have had before. Your doctor may also do a thorough pelvic examination, wherein they will insert two fingers into your vagina while pressing on your abdomen to check for any signs of infection in your pelvic organs. On detecting something abnormal, your doctor may also send a sample of your vaginal secretions to the labs for further evaluation. There they will test for any signs of bacterial vaginosis.

Sometimes, the doctor may also use a pH strip to check for the acidity of your vagina. A normal pH level should be 4.5 or below, so if the pH strip gives a number higher than this, then you may have bacterial vaginosis.

Home Remedies for Bacterial Vaginitis

Bacterial vaginitis is curable by taking a few simple precautions. Home remedies prove to be substantially more helpful in dealing with the symptoms of bacterial vaginitis. The home remedies have been described in greater detail below.

Being antifungal in nature, turmeric powder dissolved in milk can be drunk daily until the symptoms subside.

Cold Water

A cloth soaked in cold water can be laid across the affected area to obtain relief from redness and swelling due to constriction of the blood vessels. This is the simplest home remedy for getting rid of pain and that burning sensation.

Neem Powder

Neem has excellent antibacterial properties and is always recommended in cases of dermatological problems. Taking neem powder can eliminate the bacteria from the vaginal site.

Garlic can either be taken raw as capsules (1-2 each day) or applied directly on or around the vagina. Peeled garlic clove is wrapped in a gauze and can be inserted into the vagina. Repeating the treatment after an interval of 3-4 hours helps to reduce the infection.

This natural herb helps remove toxins from the body. One teaspoonful of tracheal dry leaves in a cup of hot water can be drunk as a tea to flush the toxins from your system and reduce the symptoms of the infection.

Take a tea bag, soak it in plain water and let it cool for a while in the refrigerator. The bag can now be applied externally to the affected area to relieve itching.

Cotton plugs soaked in yogurt can either be inserted into the vagina, or yogurt can be directly applied over the affected area. Treatment with yogurt has been clinically investigated and found to be beneficial in the long run as discussed by Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment. Eating a bowl of yogurt every day has also been recommended until the condition disappears.

Vegetable Juice

Vegetable juice containing parsley, ginger, and garlic, along with green vegetables, also has a beneficial effect of reducing pain and itching if you are already suffering from bacterial vaginitis.

Cedar oil

Bathing in hot water with a spoonful of salt and a few drops of cedar oil. Cedar oil helps reduce itching very effectively.

In order to keep yourself protected and to stay away from the troublesome symptoms of bacterial vaginitis, you should practice clean toilet hygiene, wash your underwear thoroughly, and take warm baths. Towels, bed sheet, pillows and other items of daily use must be cleaned regularly. However, despite all of those other remedies, experts agree that the best way to avoid bacterial vaginitis is to include yogurt as an important dietary item every day.

My 5yr old daughter has been urinating more frequently at night time then normal and although she doesn't complain about pain or burning of any sort (she still may be confused about the questions I'm asking but nevertheless she doesn't appear to have pain when peeing). I hate having to go to pediatrician every time something different is going on with her b/c that's just going to give us a greater chance to be exposed to this time of years infections and germs when I could just nip the issue in the bud with these home remedies. They're all natural it seems so I don't see any harm in trying to see if she can get some reliefs from the amount of times she's been having to go potty. What caught my eye with this being a possibility in first place was the part on Internet listing bubble baths as being a potential culprit as well as the lack of good wiping (hygiene) after pottying as the other indicator that can initiate what I've always thought to be a woman's area of concern. Never did I think that a pre-puberty child could get infected as well.
Why oh why do females have all these issues to be of concern when we have enough stress as it is being the primary caretaker (in most but not all cases) with taking care of our little girls bodies as if our own ph balance and estrogen levels isn't enough to worry sick over just to have to pass the same stressors to our kiddos.
Kudos on this great informative post 🙂

That's very useful post for me. I have the feeling that natural remedies can be the best treatment for some of the female diseases. The natural treatment is helpful because it follows the regulation of the human body, for example, the TCM says blood stasis is the cause of pain. And if a medicine can break the clot, then pain can relieved. That's I google from the internet, because I had the disease for a long time. I couldn't bear the pain it caused. And sometimes I even vomitted. This is very terrible for me. So I wanted to know more information about the disease. The articles say fuyan pill can be the solution. So I decided to have a try. The first month, I could feel that my pain much more relieved, and 3 months later, I recovered.
