The seeds of castor bean plant are poisonous to humans and animals. Poisoning from castor seeds is due to the presence of a protein named “ricin”. It causes red blood cells to agglutinate and burst. Only one milligram of ricin is enough to kill an adult, and it has also been found that the amount of ricin in one seed is enough to poison a child.
