Yes, coconut oil can cause diarrhea if taken in excess. Although coconut oil is a natural treatment for constipation, consuming 2-3 tablespoons, on an empty stomach, in one go, can lead to diarrhea-like symptoms and leave you restless. For best results, limit your intake to 1 tablespoon for a week, see how your body reacts, and then accordingly increase the intake gradually.

My mom is a big fan of healthy living. One day she read about the benefits of coconut oil in some article and started using it to cook food. Although my brother and I resisted eating it at first, we somehow consumed it. All was good. None of us in the family faced any issues. It was helpful in better digestion and excretion. Until one day she tried to experiment further and consume raw coconut oil. Nope it was not raw coconut oil that got us into trouble but having it on empty stomach did.
Consuming it on empty stomach is a big problem. And, if you have constipation issues then be sure to book the bathroom for yourself for 3 hours straight. Yes, it is that bad. I say this because I saw my brother suffer from it. This doesn’t mean it is bad to take raw coconut oil. In fact, it is helps in better digestion. But, consuming more than 2 tablespoons on empty stomach could cause diarrhea. And, after doing some google search I found out that raw coconut oil works as a laxative. Is this new to others too? Or is it only me?

My son suffered from diarrhea due to excess intake of coconut oil. Coconut oil has laxative properties. Due to this, he started getting frequent watery bowel. It was a very difficult situation for him. It took him a week to recover.
