Alopecia types include androgenic alopecia, alopecia areata, alopecia totalis or alopecia universalis, cicatricial alopecia, and traction alopecia. Androgenic alopecia is a genetic hair loss condition and is the most common form of alopecia while alopecia areata is a form of patchy hair loss on the scalp. Alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis are responsible for an extreme hair loss pattern which can affect the entire body. Cicatricial alopecia is when the hair follicles are destroyed and replaced by scar tissues.
