How to tell if coconut oil has gone bad?

If the coconut oil tastes soapy then it has gone rancid. Don't consume it. Get your money back and buy a fresher jar. If you feel nauseous then it might be because it is rancid.

There could be more than one way in which coconut oil can go bad:
1. It may turn yellow in color
2. It smells rancid
3. It loses its consistency (becomes curdled)
4. The bottom layer in the jar turns greenish (fungus attack or something)
