Wintergreen essential oil has its benefits as a pain reliever, but it becomes extremely harmful when ingested. It contains methyl salicylate which is highly toxic. It is advisable not to ingest this oil under any circumstances. Even diluted proportions will be fatal. Wintergreen essential oil is obtained from a plant called Gaultheria Procumbens which is a part of the Ericaceae plant family.
