Although both essential oils are extracted from the same herb, white thyme essential oil is different from red thyme essential oil. It has a milder fragrance and action and is typically used to prevent infections and treat respiratory problems. Red thyme essential oil is comparatively more concentrated and raw than its distilled counterpart.

They are both extracted from the same plant.
Red thyme is usually expensive as it is the first product obtained after distillation. It also has higher and more concentrated amounts of phenols. It is used sparingly and mostly only for topical applications.
White thyme is a product obtained after distilling red thyme. Thus, it has less concentrated phenols. It can is used in various regualr applications.
