Alopecia areata or spot baldness occurs on the scalp and causes hair loss in patches. It affects both sexes and is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system starts attacking hair follicles, causing hair to fall off in particular areas. It is the only type of baldness that affects both men and women.

Alopecia means baldness for those who don’t know. It happens to male and females but maybe more to males.
