Frozen Grapes: How to Freeze & Enjoy

Frozen grapes are some of the most under-appreciated summertime snacks, but safely freezing and storing grapes is an important part of that process, so knowing the tips and tricks are crucial!

How to Freeze Grapes?

The journey to frozen grapes begins by choosing the right types of grapes.

  • Step 1 – Choose a seedless variety of grapes, as these are easier to eat (red, green, and black varieties are available).
  • Step 2 – Check for color, plumpness, and the appearance/thickness of the stems.
  • Step 3 – Ensure that none of the grapes are disfigured or shriveled.

After you have chosen the best bunch of grapes you can find, you can bring them home to prepare them for freezing.

  • Step 1 – Thoroughly wash and rinse the grapes, cleaning them of any residue of pesticides. Grapes are known as some of the fruits that are at highest risk for retaining this type of chemical residue.
  • Step 2 – Drain the grapes in a colander and shake as much water off as you can.
  • Step 3 – Lay out the grapes on a towel and gently blot them dry with another towel.
  • Step 4 – Spread the grapes on a baking sheet that has been lined with wax paper.
  • Step 5 – Put the grapes in the freezer for a few hours to quick-freeze them.
  • Step 6 – Store the grapes in a plastic bag or airtight container in the freezer, removing as much air as possible from the container.

Once the grapes are frozen, they will keep for at least 1 year, but if the grapes are perpetually frozen at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, they will remain delicious and viable for an indefinite amount of time. Frozen grapes make for the best summertime snacks, as they retain much of their flavor. They also retain their vibrant color and shape. Many people choose to use frozen grapes in place of ice cubes in summertime cocktails or beverages.
