Home Remedies for Dercum’s Disease

Some of the home remedies for Dercum’s disease include the use of castor oil, lemon juice, turmeric, olive oil, various fruit juices, chicory, okra, flaxseed oil, fish, legumes and pulses, seeds, and spices. In terms of behavior, frequent exercise to reduce fat, deep detox, raw juice therapy, and avoiding any foods that may contain pesticides have been connected to reducing the symptoms of Dercum’s disease.

Dercum’s disease, which is known in the medical profession as Adiposis dolorosa, is a painful and rare condition that consists of lipomas forming in the upper arms, legs, and torso. Lipomas are benign tumors that are composed of adipose tissues (body fat). Since they are benign, they rarely pose a terminal threat to a patient, but the associated pain can be severe and debilitating. Due to its rarity and the lack of relevant case studies or research, there are limited forms of treatment, and the exact mechanism or cause behind the disease is currently unknown. The best information that has been accumulated points to pressure on the nerves, nervous system malfunctions, or adipose tissue disorders as the cause of this painful condition.

The disease afflicts women far more commonly than men; it is 5 to 30 times more common in women than men, typically between the ages of 35 and 50. Due to this age relation, it was previously associated with menopause, but in fact, it develops before menopause in a large number of cases. Some of the symptoms of Dercum’s disease which may be indicators of the condition are easily formed bruises, obesity, sleep disorders, memory problems, cognitive issues, constipation, fatigue, shortness of breath, joint and muscle inflammation, diabetes, and bloating. There are no set medical tests to diagnose Dercum’s disease, although ultrasounds and MRI’s are useful in identifying the adipose tissue tumors in the body.

Since formal treatment is so limited, home remedies are often turned to for treatment of Dercum’s disease, although they are mainly associated with pain reduction, rather than actual curing of the condition. Some of the most successful and common home remedies are explained below.

Home Remedies for Dercum’s Disease

RAD Diet: Formal studies are lacking on this condition, but some researchers have come up with a RAD diet, founded on the idea that reducing foods that increase fat intake, exacerbate inflammation, or add to cardiovascular risks can make the condition worse. The RAD diet consists of fish, beans, chicken, and whole grains like brown rice. You should also reduce your intake of red meat, sugar, wheat, processed foods, and dairy products.

Lemon Juice:  This fruit juice can stimulate the liver to detoxify the body, thereby reducing the amount of unhealthy fat and lowering the chances of them depositing as lipomas.

Castor Oil: Castor oil can be applied directly to the lipomas (tumors) that are evident on the surface of the skin and may be painful or inflamed. This can help to reduce their size and the associated pain.

Liver Detoxification: Any foods that are associated with stimulating the liver are known to help the associated symptoms of Dercum’s disease, such as pomegranate juice, okra, chicory, most spices, papayas, and tangerines. By reducing the amount of excess adipose fat in the body, the tumors will reduce in frequency and size.

Turmeric Oil: This spice can eliminate the lumps that form with lipomas. By mixing this oil with olive oil, it can soften and break up the lumps by applying it to the skin in the affected areas.

Omega-3 Fatty Acid: Increasing your intake of omega-3 fatty acid-rich foods can help reduce the painful symptoms of Dercum’s disease. Omega-3 fatty acids (HDL cholesterol) can reduce the amount of omega-6 fatty acids, which are major contributors to adipose tissue in the body. Eating foods like flaxseed and a variety of oily fish can help reduce the lipoma lumps and lower the risk of additional tumors forming.

Avoid Pesticides: Eating organic foods that have not been treated with toxins like pesticides can be a major boost to the body’s protective defenses, and the liver is not overworked. Therefore, it can better process the dangerous forms of fat in the body that can lead to lipoma formation.

Generally, you should clean up your diet and try to eat healthier, while combining that with exercise, which can reduce adipose tissue throughout the body. Until a formal cure is found, these home remedies and alternative treatments are your best option to eliminate this challenging and painful condition!
