What is Saffron Oil?

Saffron oil is the essential oil extracted from the saffron spice and it has an astringent quality, which makes it a popular medicinal tool. The saffron plant is scientifically known as Crocus sativus, and spice comes from the flower of this plant. Saffron, also known as Kesar, is one of the most expensive spices in the world, particularly in American markets, so its concentrated oil can be even more costly, depending on where you are in the world.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of almond oil
  • 8 oz water
  • 2 tbsp saffron

Instructions

  • To make saffron oil, add 2 tablespoons of saffron spice to 1/2 cup of almond oil.
  • Stir the spice into the oil and allow them to sit for 5-10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, bring a saucepan of water to a boil.
  • Now, add the mixture of saffron and almond oil to the water and allow it to boil. Let it heat this way for 30-40 minutes.
  • In the end, strain out the saffron spice and voila you have your saffron oil ready for use!

Notes

Use the oil in moderation. If you are using saffron oil for skincare, use jojoba oil or sweet almond oil. While using for cooking, use coconut oil or olive oil, and for hair care, just about any oil base would do.

There are some potential side effects to using this oil, particularly if taken by mouth, which should only be done in limited quantities. Side effects can include:
