If you are at a high risk for heart disease or atherosclerosis, one of the best additions to your diet is fish oil. This can be consumed directly in the form of a fish oil supplement or by adding oily fish like tuna and mackerel to your diet. Fish oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are considered “good” forms of cholesterol that actually improve cholesterol balance and reduce inflammation in the arteries and blood vessels. Fish oil can help remove the buildup of plaque that can form in the arteries, and thus lower the chances of blood clots, heart attacks and strokes.
