You may think of licorice as candy, but licorice root is also a powerful herb used for many conditions, including the treatment of earaches. If you heat some licorice root in a few tablespoons of butter and mix it thoroughly, a thick paste will form. While this paste it warm, you can apply it around the outside of the ear to relieve the pain and inflammation of an earache. There are also antioxidant molecules in licorice root that may be able to boost the immune system and help clear up the ear infection causing the ache.
