Many people don’t realize that marshmallow is an herb, and even more don’t realize how powerful its effects on sore throats can be! The mucilage found in marshmallow root forms a protective coat on the inflamed tissues of the throat, preventing further irritation or coughing, which only makes things worse. Marshmallow root can be consumed and prepared in a number of ways, but for the treatment of a sore throat, you should steep the leaves from this herb in boiling water, as though you’re preparing a tea, and then drink it 1-2 times per day until you’ve recovered.
