Diverticulitis is essentially a condition where small pouch-like formations in your colon become inflamed, causing discomfort, painful bowel movements, bleeding and bloating. Potatoes may not seem like an obvious solution for this type of condition, but in fact, potatoes contain large amounts of anti-inflammatory compounds, and are also rather easy for the digestive system to handle. Therefore, if you want to soothe your stomach and calm those inflamed diverticula down, adding some mashed, broiled or baked potatoes to your daily diet might not be a bad idea.
