Having enough protein in our diet is an important factor in regulating our metabolism and properly breaking down carbohydrates for efficient use as energy sources. To prevent gestational diabetes in pregnant women, protein levels should be maintained at all times, so when a pregnant woman consumes carbohydrates, they should be paired in some way with proteins. This will help the body keep its blood sugar levels normalized and only release the necessary amounts of insulin. Protein will also help with the proper growth and development of the fetus, and the health of the mother!
