It is not surprising that the preference for an organic product is increasing among consumers while purchasing coconut oil as well. How is organic coconut oil separate from the normally available coconut oil?
In brief, the process of manufacturing organic coconut oil can be described as below:
- Organic coconuts that are grown without the use of any chemical fertilizers and pesticides are collected.
- These coconuts are then broken and the flesh is dried. Normally chemicals are used to speed up the drying process. However, in organic coconut oil manufacture, the coconut flesh is not dried using chemicals.
- The next step involves extraction of the oil. While making organic coconut oil, extraction is done at low temperatures and only through mechanical means. Chemicals (solvents) are not used for this purpose.
- This is followed by refining. Refining happens through sedimentation or low pressure filters. Again, chemicals are not used for refining process.
Thus the entire process of manufacturing organic coconut oil does not involve chemical usage. Many countries have guidelines and standards for producing organic foods. Workers in companies manufacturing certified organic coconut oil follow these guidelines and thus ensure stringent cleanliness and hygiene standards, in spite of extensive manual handling.
