Although there are many large-scale commercial processes that can make buttermilk these days, some people still prefer to make it at home. If you follow the simple instructions below, you will be making your own in no time!

  • Combine the skim milk with the juice or vinegar.
    2 bottles fresh skimmed milk with orange striped straws and a slice of lime kept on a wooden table
  • Continue stirring for at least 5 minutes, until the consistency becomes even.
  • Add the buttermilk to any recipe that calls for it and enjoy!

Notes

You can add buttermilk to many recipes such as pancake, scones, and soda bread among others.
