Homemade Vapor Rub

If you are prone to coughs and colds and are looking for an all-natural vapor rub, then this is the recipe for you! Most balms and vapor rubs in the market contain petroleum as an ingredient. Petroleum has a sticking quality, which locks in moisture and dirt in the skin pores. This disallows the natural detoxification process of the skin.

Make Your Own Vapor Rub

Natural vapor rubs made from coconut oil or olive oil are safer to use on the skin. Essential oils like peppermint oil and eucalyptus oil help loosen the mucus in the chest. This can then aid the body to expel the phlegm. The homemade rub gives instant relief when applied.

It is best not to use on children as the essential oils may cause a burning sensation.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 4 drops peppermint oil
  • 4 drops eucalyptus oil
  • 4 drops clove oil

Instructions

  • Add the essential oils to the coconut oil and blend well. 
  • Keep in a clean, air-tight glass container and apply when needed! 
    Coconut oil lotion in a large glass jar, next to coconut oil in a small jar

Notes

You can also add 4 drops of orange essential oil for a nice calming and citrusy fragrance.
