Coconut butter is not just another name for coconut oil. You have heard about coconut oil and its multi-faceted benefits and you might also have used it. But some of you might not have heard about coconut butter.
Again, people in European and cold countries are more familiar with this name than those living in India and other warm countries, though they use it regularly. What is this coconut butter then? Let us find out.
What is coconut butter?
Coconut butter is a butter-like paste made from the flesh of coconuts. When you grind dry whole coconuts (without the outer shell) with some water or coconut water, you get coconut butter. It is must like peanut butter in looks. Coconut butter is different from coconut oil. Coconut oil is the oil extracted by pressing coconuts, it does not contain the flesh of coconut. Coconut butter will have both the flesh and oil in it (as the oil has not been removed from the coconut).
How is coconut butter used?
Normally coconut butter is for edible purposes. Very few people use it for topical use. Coconut butter is either use as a spread on breads or it can also be used in making several recipes. Coconut butter is tasty and those who do not like the taste of coconut oil, yet want to get the benefits of it should consume coconut butter.

How to make coconut butter at home?
Making coconut butter at home is quite easy. Take dry whole coconut. Shred it and put it in a food processor. You can also buy shredded coconut from the market. You may add some water, or even coconut water. Some people also add milk. After 10-20 minutes depending on your blender speed, you will get a smooth paste of coconut butter. The coconut butter will not be as smooth as regular butter and it will be have some granularity. This should not bother you must.
Availability in Stores
Coconut butter is normally not available in stores in tropical countries. People in tropical countries prefer to make coconut butter at home. However, in other countries it is available in stores though not that easily, but you can try your luck is stores situated in places having higher populations from India (especially Kerala), Sri Lanka, and Phillipines.
