Home remedies for fleas can include usage of rosemary seeds, fennel seeds, garlic, tea tree oil, herbal oils and shampoos, black walnut hulls, Aloe Vera, vinegar and natural borax powder in different forms. Fleas can be very harmful not only for your pets, but for you as well. Fleas and ticks are most commonly found in dogs and cats. It is much easier for them to get fleas as they are exposed to stray cats and dogs and fleas take a minute to spread. It can be transferred easily. Fleas are small insects which you can be found on the dog’s body leaving your dog scratching its own body due to the itching.

Fleas are tiny insects, not having wings, crawls on the pet’s bodies, according to MedlinePlus. One female flea can alone produce 20,000 fleas at a time. They suck the pet’s blood making them feel the itching sensation all the time. Some of the dogs are very sensitive to the fleas and often the itching and scratching makes them lose hair. This scratching can leave sores on to your pet’s body which can very vulnerable to the bacterial infection.

People who are pet owners can understand it and it becomes so difficult for the pet that experiences this pain and it feels so helpless about it. Once your dog is infected by fleas, it becomes very difficult to get rid of them. Even a human can get suffered from flea bite. As it is a pet dog and it roams around the entire house, it is bound to happen that fleas are spread all over your house belongings.

Certain home remedies, if followed properly, can help cure and get rid of fleas in a few weeks, says CDC. They are very effective and have shown promising results with no side effects as well.

• Rosemary Seeds or Oil: Rosemary is one of the most effective herbs or rather essential oil. You can make use of rosemary seeds, grind them into a powder and sprinkle the powder on to your pet’s body all over the skin or you can make use of the rosemary essential oil by adding a few drops into your pet’s bathing water. This home remedy can be very useful and be very effective.
• Fennel Seeds: It works similarly as the rosemary oil or seeds, you can use either of these seeds or else can mix it up as well and use appropriately.
• Garlic: Add one clove of finely chopped garlic in the dog’s food every day. If possible, make use of it in dinner or meals at night. This will work wonders as it is the most reliable and old time home based remedy to get rid of fleas.
• Tea Tree Oil: Add equal amount of tea tree oil to the same amount of water. Put this mixture into a spray bottle. Spray this water on the itchy areas of the body or whenever you see your dog scratching and itching. It will give immediately relief to your pet.
• Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera is considered to be very effective and has been used since long ages. It is non toxic so carries no side effects. Just apply Aloe Vera gel on to the infected body parts and this will give relief to the hot spots or and skin irritations caused due to biting and scratching led by fleas.
• Vinegar: Include some vinegar in the pet’s regular drinking water. It works as a disinfectant.
• Black Walnut Hulls: These capsules are easily available at the health food stores and medicine shops. Black walnut hulls will repel fleas and ticks.
• Sulphur: Add sulphur to your pet’s diet and keep the intake once a week. This will help them to keep flea-less.

Some of the points to be kept in mind, if you have pets at home suffering from fleas:

Avoid your pets mixing with the stray dogs and cats
Always use herbal shampoo for bathing your pets.
Make it a point to feed your pets regularly with garlic and some vinegar in their water. This will prevent them from getting any fleas at all.
