Hello Mike, responding to your message about Blackwalnuts. Blackwalnuts are a good sorce of protein & Calcium, provides energy, lowers blood preasure and cholesterol levels 1/2 cup. Check whole food stores. These trees are grown in the southern states and the nuts are very expensive. Rich, used in Frostings for carrot cakes,2-layer & pound cakes, cookies & Ice Cream. Walmarts and some grocery stores carry the pre-packaged ones. Extracts and Flavorings are hard to come buy, but Rawleighs carries the Blk. Walnut Flavorings. Hope this is helpful.

Having acne is a dillema to me. I tried all sorts of regime to cure my acne but still its recurring. Recently i have read an article featuring the nutitional and medicinal value of carrots. Thats why i gave a try in eating raw carrots twice a day with the hope that it will help cure my problem. My officemates laughed at me coz i look like bugz bunny..hehheheh
carrot trouble  - carrott-less 2009-08-12 02:33:48
I'm really befuddled....whenever I eat raw carrots or fresh carrot juice I end up feeling like something is stuck in my esophagus...kind of like I need to swallow something into my stomach, but I can't.

This is clearly some sort of reaction I have to raw carrots and carrots juice. Carrots that have been cooked (i.e. in a stir fry) seem to cause me no problems.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this?
Mr. Tomato  - RE : Carrot Trouble 2009-08-28 11:37:16
You're experiencing a food allergy.

Make sure you have benedryl or some other antihistamine on hand in case you develop trouble breathing. Another surefire thing is the "Epi Pen" which is the best defence from severe allergic reactions until you can get to a hospital.

I have the same reaction to raw carrots, raw celery, and radishes. None have been severy but instead just very uncomfortable.

I have ended up in the hospital twice due to shellfish allergies which is a severy form of what you describe.

I'd suggest not eating carrots or drinking carrot juice.

What other fruit or veg contains the same nutritional value as tomatoes
Kathleen  - Fruite or vegetable 2008-08-03 11:14:21
Is it fact or myth that the in 1893 the supreme court ruled the tomatoe as vegetable. If so, does that ruling still stand today, or has it been overruled in recent years.
holly  - reply 2009-01-12 12:56:29
I don't know about any supreme court ruling, but any product from a plant that yields seeds is a fruit. That includes squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, grapes, etc. etc.

What effect does heating and boiling have on carrots and tomatoes with regards to their nutritional values? Some people say that carrots need to be boiled first before eating to increase their benefits to the body. Is this true or ots a myth?
Thanks
amit jindal  - facts about tomatoes and onion 2008-07-12 22:28:19
does tomatoe and onion contain carbohydrates......cn we have them with all protein diet.........amit
holly(nutrition student) 2009-01-12 13:13:18
yes some. Really carbs and protein has the same caloric content. 4 cal for every gram. The only carbs you should stay away from is "enriched" white flour, white breads, and white rice. Pretty much anything that man has taken all the grains and oats of.
All fruits and veg. that contain carbs also has much more important contents such as soluble fiber that keeps food flowing in you GI tract which reduces the risk of colon and intestinal cancers.
holly(nutrition student)  - reply 2009-01-12 13:06:51
Vitamins and minerals cook out of all fruits and vegatables when cooked. You can use the water you cook them in to still benefit. All raw fruits and vegatables should be washed before eating. The only fruit or vegatable that I know of that can be just as beneficial to eat cooked as raw tomatoes. When tomatoes are cooked a chem reaction takes place that when eatin can help reduce risks to certain cancers.
