Organic Food Stores in Denmark Print E-mail

The market for organic food in Denmark was 500 million Euro in 2007. The most popular organic commodity in Denmark is organic milk. About 30 percent of the milk sold in Denmark is organic milk.

The huge demand for organic food in Denmark can be attributed to envrironment conscious nature of Danish people and favourable support of the government.

Danish citizens have always show lead when it comes to environment concious living. Be it renewable energy or organic food, the country leads the world on a per capita basis. The small size of the country may not show volume sales comparable to many other countries. However, the organic sales per capita in Denmark, which was about 92 EUR per person in 2007, is an inspiration for the entire world to go organic.

you are very right with your comments about organic food in denmark. we are an organic olive oil and dried
food exporter and we have been exporting some countries in europe. but no danish importer is really interested
in our products. they are only interested in prices!!!

This can't be true. I lived in Denmark for several years and am now living in California. I recently returned
to Odense for the Christmas holidays, hoping to find an improvement in the availability of organic produce,
only to be disappointed. I could not find fresh organic produce such as kale, chard, and other dark leafy
vegetables to support my diet. Bilka's "organic section" had a paltry selection of apples, yams
(these are regularly mislabeled in the Danish markets- sometimes sweet potatoes are labeled as yams and vice
versa), onions, and carrots on hand. Føtex's selection was not much better. I did not even bother to go to
Kvickly. The health store in town did not have any fresh produce either. I er så glæd for sig selv! How can
you say that Denmark leads the country per capita in terms of consumption of organic fruits and vegetables
when there is hardly any available for sale in the markets? It's also so hard to find affordable organic
meats. Yes, you probably do lead the world in affordable organic milk production, but I don't even drink
milk! I don't know anyone other than one person in our circle of friends who live in Denmark, who eats organic
year around. I wish that you could open up a chain of Whole Foods markets in Denmark. Send some staff there
to do some research. Check out their website at www.wholefoods.com This is what the Danish market should
aspire to.
