WWOOF Organizations

Do you want to experience life in Australia by living and working with families all over the country? Why not try WWOOFing! WWOOF (What is WWOOF?) (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) is a unique form of farm stay where you exchange your skills and labour for food, board and a bit of the local culture.

What is WWOOF Australia?
WWOOF Australia is an Australia-wide network of host properties where you work between 4 and 6 hours a day in exchange for food and accommodation. There are host properties right across Australia from the rainforests in the north to the deserts of the West. From suburban backyards in Brisbane, to vast cattle stations in outback Northern Territory, you can experience it all with WWOOF. How about mustering cattle, cruising for crocodiles, bushwalking in the rainforest, building straw bale bungalows, feeding baby kangaroos?

By joining WWOOF Australia (cost $55 for one or $65 for any two people using the one book) you have access to over 1,600 host properties throughout Australia.
There are over 1600 participating farms. There are 506 in NSW, 40 in the NT, 241 in Vic, 418 in Qld, 105 in SA, 190 in WA and 125 in Tasmania.

All the host farms are listed in a book available from WWOOF Australia. Buy it from one of our agents (see www.wwoof.com.au/agents.html), order via the website (www.wwoof.com.au), or buy it directly from the WWOOF Office (2166 Gelantipy Road, W Tree via Buchan, 3885, Victoria, Australia)

How WWOOFing in Australia Works?
When you join WWOOF Australia you will be supplied with a membership (Benefits of WWOOF Membership) book which has the contact details and a description of each property. The WWOOF Book is your membership booklet and is not to be given to anyone else. From it you select the host you wish to visit, make contact and arrange a mutually convenient time and period. Bookings can be made by phone, letter or email direct to the farm you choose. To join WWOOF you can contact us direct, check out our web site where you will find a secure link for credit cards or go to one of our agents.

Hosts with WWOOF Australia
Hosts with WWOOF Australia are mainly living a simple sustainable lifestyle. Many are permaculture enthusiasts, and some use bio-dynamic growing methods. About a quarter of the farms are commercial producers, whether full or part time. Some of our hosts live in alternative co-operative communities, and a few are communal living. The work you will do for these hosts will be varied, and can include anything the host needs doing and you are capable of! It may be gardening, weeding, planting trees, environmental works, feeding animals; the work is as varied as the farms themselves. The minimum stay on a WWOOF farm is 2 nights; the maximum stay is by mutual agreement between you and your host. Most stays are for a few days only, but there are a number of hosts who encourage longer term stays up to as long as 6 months.

Potential participants in the WWOOF program should satisfy themselves that they are able to cope with the physical and mental demands of the WWOOF experience (Is WWOOF Always a Pleasant Experience?). Participants should have at least average physical fitness. The nature of the program is such that it is generally unsuitable for a person suffering from psychiatric or psychological conditions. If in doubt, please contact WWOOF and/or your Medical Practitioner to discuss the matter.
