White pepper plant is harvested from the same flowering vine as the black pepper is; the difference being that black peppercorns are unripe when picked and sundried whereas the removal of this black outer layer results in white peppercorns. The pepper plant is a woody vine that grows up to 4 meters long with support from trees and trellises.
