Consuming fresh garlic bulbs, or the extracts or the oil on an empty stomach might cause nausea, vomiting, and heartburn. Consuming garlic on an empty stomach can also cause diarrhea. When taken orally, garlic can cause bad breath, a burning sensation in the mouth or stomach, and may also increase the risk of bleeding.
