Perimenopause and menopause cause fat from the lower body shift to the abdominal area due to hormonal imbalances as there is a drop in estrogen levels during the period. Packed foods (Trans food), candy (saturated fat), soybean oil, safflower oil, corn oil, grape-seed oil (omega-3 fats) also contribute to belly fat. Other reasons include stress, a lack of exercise, and unhealthy food habits.
